Going to Temajo Island
with
Khatulistiwa English Community
Bridge to the World

By: Yunita Kusumawardani

Khatulistiwa English Community or Key is one of English community in Pontianak, indonesia. The founding father is Mr. Septian Adinegara. Previously, he was wary of planning an English study group because his comrades didn’t enough serious about it, it’s just yapping.  In 2008, one of his friend, (unknown) rose his pretension to built an English study group once more. In this time, he built this community for a reality with bright vision and mission.
What makes Key different with others? Key has a lot of agendas, discussing, watching, game, tour, broadcasting, studying compare, etc. (23-24/06) We went to Temajo Island recently. It is in Mempawah. Before we get there, we have taught basics English lesson for some children in Mempawah
Key with children took picture after having spontaneous teaching

We got to Temajo Island by boat, and it needed about one hour. There’s gorgeous beach
which has a good spot for taking picture. There’re still so much cockle shells, the sea grass and stones lied across the sea. We stayed in a really simply villa for a night, this villa has a good water work, and friendly keeper. Fortunately, it is closed the mosque.
One of gorgeous spot in Temajo Island's beach

Me
KEy have cockle shells, Yummy!
Temajo Island didn’t have permanent residents. It’s nature an island that separate from the west of Borneo. There’re seven hills, and the wood is creepy...hehe. But we could still explore it as long as we didn’t do something bad. We went to the other beach side of the island to get the boat, walked on footpath. We faced some challenge, there’s a fallen tree which closed the footpath, but we still went on by went through the gap, it’s a bit difficult for the big body, but we could make it. The footpath’s not always smooth, there’s broken footpath, once we passed challenge by walking on a thin stem.
Then, when we get the other beach side, we couldn’t reach the boat in the coastal area. Because the sea didn’t enough tide. In a pinch, we crossed the sea. Surprisingly, we’re surrounded by a lot of corals. Can you imagine how it feels, walked on the coral? Ugh, don’t try this at beach. Because, it seemed like walked on shards, and if you got fall into it, it seemed like a crab bite you. I was the lucky ones who step by a sandal. The rest got wound.
They’re all my souvenirs from Temajo Island with Khatulistiwa English Community. Hope we become more Compaq after unsettling Temajo island. Together we bridge to the world. See ya!
